Have you ever sat and looked at John 3:30. “He must increase, but I must decrease.” What is John talking about? I must decrease in what? John the Baptist had a spectacular ministry. A large ministry. He had disciples. He was baptizing people by the hundreds. But when the Christ came, John stepped away and allowed Christ to claim all the glory. Why did he do that? Why would he give away the thing that he built up and took care of? Because it wasn’t his. It never was. John knew that he was preparing the way for Christ to come and knew that he had to step away and humble himself so Christ can receive all the glory. There will be a time in your life, if not already, where the world will exalt you. People will tell you that you did an awesome job and that you deserve the glory you are recieving. Would you be willing to decrease, and say no, I shouldn’t receive this glory, it belongs to God.

There is one man in recent sports history who I has yet to ever glorify himself. Tebow Mania has swept through America by storm. Six straight wins by fourth quarter comebacks! Craziness. As the world watched and praised the young inspiring Timmy, he took a step back and thanked God before he ever talked about anything else. Watch the interviews. He praises God for his performance and then goes on to thank his teammates for the win. The reporters hate it. They want the all-star to talk about himself and how he prepared to win that game. Tim never does. Tim decreases.

Are you willing to decrease when Christ should increase. This can be in your own life. It is good to have a good quiet time and memorize verses, but its not good if you go around and gloat about how much you read or how many verses you have memorized. We are not to praise ourselves for our time with God. We should praise God for what he is teaching us when we do our quiet time and memorize verses. Remember, its never about us and it never will be. We have to take a step back so Christ can step forward and claim what is rightfully his.

I must decrease. Will you?
